England and Australia will lock horns again in the second ODI match in Cardiff. With already having lost first ODI Australia will like to bounce back in this match and level the series.
England being 1-0 up in the series but they have plenty to work. Their win in first ODI was not a convincing one as a batting unit. Chasing a low target they somehow got over the line with two wickets in hand. They were great with the ball especially their spinners Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali who picked up 5 wickets together and restricted Australia to a low score.
Last time when England played at Cardiff they had a very disappointing end. They lost to Pakistan in the semi final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Just before the start of the series they lost to Scotland in an ODI match. Win in first ODI was also not a convincing one. They have to perform together as a team. Against Scotland bowling let them down and in first ODI against Australia batting created problems for them. Well two average performance should not worry them much as they have been best ODI team in last one year but there is plenty of improvements needs to be done. The big positive thing for them from last game was their two spinners who preformed really well.
While Australia on the other hand facing one of the toughest times as they lost their captain and vice captain. Though in last ODI even after poor batting performance their bowlers shown some good fighting spirit which proved that they are still ready to fight. Their batting needs to show some character. In last one year even in the presence of Steve Smith and David Warner, it’s their batting that has led them down.
Also in first ODI against England their batsmen put up a poor show. They barely managed to score 214 runs. At one stage they were 90/5. Senior players like Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh needs to take that extra responsibility. Thanks to other senior partner Glen Maxwell who scored crucial 62 in last match and took Australia to a fighting total.
Australia really needs to find the way to deal against spinners. In last match they gave away 5 wickets to Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali. In their series against India also it was the two wrist spinners who troubled them most. So to give a good fight to strong England team they need to play their spinners well.
