Indian Women Cricketer Smriti Mandhana will become first Indian Cricketer to play Women’s Cricket Super League in England after signing up with Western Storm. Defending champions Western Storm has signed Smriti Mandhana as their second overseas player for the third season of the domestic T20 competition on Thursday June 14. Other overseas player whom they signed up is New Zealand wicketkeeper batsman Rachel Priest.
Before this also Mandhana has already played in overseas franchise leaugue. She has played for Brisbane Heat in Women’s Big Bash Leaugue in 2016-17. She also captained IPL
Trailblazzers in one off T20 exhibition match played on 22nd May 2018.
“I am very excited to be playing for the Kia Super League champions. To be the first Indian player to appear in the tournament is a real honour and I hope that I can help Western Storm to more success,” Mandhana said after she signed up the deal for Western Storm.
Western Storm head coach is also very excited to have Mandhana in their team. Their head coach Trevor Griffin said – “We are really excited that Smriti will be joining us. She is one of the brightest young talents in the game at the moment. Although she is still young, she has a great deal of experience of the game at the highest level and we believe that she will prove to be an excellent signing.”
Mandhana has been very consistent for India with the bat. In 2018 she has scored 531 runs at an average over 66, including five fifties and a career-best 135 against South Africa, in nine ODI innings. She also won best Women’s International Cricketer of the year award in a award show hosted by BCCI.
